Adding a hot wire to an existing post-and-rail or page wire fence only works if the conductor stands well clear. Fixed close to the post, it shorts on the old fence every time the line moves, and stock go on leaning through the rails. This insulator carries the conductor on a 200 mm stem with a 50 mm wood thread behind it, which puts the live line a comfortable distance off the post face and out ahead of anything nailed to it. The head takes tape up to 40 mm or rope and polywire up to 6 mm, and there is a separate notch for cord up to 6 mm where you want a second, thinner line off the same fitting. It closes with a clip rather than a thread, so the conductor goes in from the side and a run can be strung on the ground and lifted in. The body is black UV and weather-resistant plastic. Ten to the pack. It doubles as a line insulator, so one fitting covers a straight run of standalone offset fence. Keep the height consistent and set it at the point on the animal you want to reach, not at whatever height the existing fence rail happens to be.
