CORRAL wood post claw rope screw-in insulator (25/bag)
A screw-in rope insulator for wood posts taking rope up to 8 mm on a galvanized 6 mm steel support, twenty-five to the bag.
Details
Fence rope is heavier than polywire and it pulls. An insulator held to a post by nothing but a plastic body will eventually work its way out or split at the shank, and 6 mm rope under tension has enough energy in it to take the fitting with it. This one carries the rope in a claw on a galvanized 6 mm steel support, threaded to screw directly into a wood post. The steel is what takes the load; the plastic only has to keep the rope off it. Rope up to 8 mm fits, which covers everything from a light line to a heavy horse rope. Twenty-five to the bag. Drive them with a screw bit in a drill rather than by hand. A bag of twenty-five is a long afternoon otherwise. Bore a small pilot in hardwood or in old dry posts so the shank does not split the post along the grain. The claw is a running fitting. Rope should be able to move through it slightly as you tension a line and as the line shifts with temperature. Take strain at corners and ends on a corner insulator built for it.
