Wide tape is only as good as the way it is held. A fitting that pinches it at the middle lets the edges flutter, and flutter is what saws through the conductors along the edge of the tape where nobody looks. This insulator uses a claw to hold 40 mm tape across its full width against the body, so the tape sits flat and the load spreads over the whole section rather than a fold.
