Details
Wide tape is only as good as the way it is held. A fitting that pinches it at the middle lets the edges flutter, and flutter is what saws through the conductors along the edge of the tape where nobody looks. This insulator uses a claw to hold 40 mm tape across its full width against the body, so the tape sits flat and the load spreads over the whole section rather than a fold. It mounts to a wood post either by screwing or by nailing, which is useful on old posts where a screw will not find sound wood. Ten to the bag. Set them at a consistent height along the run and keep the tape running true through each one. Tape that is entering an insulator at an angle will wear at the mouth. On any run over a couple of hundred metres, put a tensioner somewhere in the line. Tape moves a lot with temperature, and being able to take up slack in one place beats resetting insulators along the whole fence.
