Wooden handles break at the neck and steel ones are heavy and cold to hold. Aluminum is the compromise that actually works for a tool used every day through a winter: light enough to swing for an hour, stiff enough not to flex under a load, and it does not soak up water and swell. The manufacturer lists the overall dimensions as 43 by 20 by 168 cm (17 by 8 by 66 inches), with a D-shaped grip at the top. The D is worth having on a rake rather than a plain end, because it lets you put a real pull into the stroke without your hand sliding off. It handles bedding, shavings, manure, spilled hay and general yard tidying. The plastic head takes abuse a garden rake would not survive, and unlike a steel rake it leaves no rust marks on anything it touches. Purple is easy to find in a corner and hard to borrow permanently. Hang it by the D rather than standing it head-down against a wall, since standing on the tines is what bends them over time.
