The reason to feed over the fence is that you are not opening a gate for every meal. The reason to choose a square feeder over a round one is that a square body gives a wider face at the same capacity, so an animal has room to eat without shoving the feeder sideways along the rail. It holds 13.2 L (14 quarts) in moulded polyethylene, and hangs by a rear hook that drops over a top rail, panel or gate. Nothing to bolt on, nothing to adjust, and the load pulls down onto the rail rather than away from it. Blue is a good colour to assign a specific job. If the blue feeders are the supplement feeders, or the ones belonging to a particular group, nobody has to think about it during chores. Chores are exactly when the thinking gets skipped and the mistakes get made. Take it down between feeds. Left hanging, a feeder turns into a rain gauge, and a full feeder frozen to a rail in January is a job nobody volunteers for.
