A teat is a consumable. A determined calf will chew through one in a couple of weeks, and the hole gets bigger every day until the bottle empties faster than the calf can swallow. Keeping spares on the shelf is cheaper than keeping spare bottles. These are the snap-on style, where the teat is moulded into a deep cap that pushes over the neck of the bottle rather than a flange held on by a screw ring. They fit the 2 quart push-in nipple bottles, including the versions with a handle. If your bottle has a threaded neck and a separate screw ring you want the screw teat instead, so check before ordering. They come two to a pack, which is about right. One on the bottle, one in the drawer. Swapping takes seconds and there is nothing to lose in the straw. Wash them properly rather than rinsing. Milk residue inside a teat is what makes them go off early, and hot water with a bottle brush takes care of it. Store them dry and out of sunlight and they last considerably longer than they do sitting in a bucket by the door.
