Details
You can tell a lot from the inside of a bucket, but only if you can see it. A dark interior hides the film that builds up around the waterline and the ring of old feed at the bottom, and a bucket that looks clean in the shed looks very different once you get it out into daylight. A light colour gives you no such comfort, which is the argument for it. That makes sky blue a sensible choice for the water bucket specifically. Anything growing in it shows up early rather than after it has taken hold, and rinsing becomes a job you can see the end of. It holds 5 quarts, about 4.7 litres, in a body around 25 cm across by 17 cm deep, with a heavy gauge galvanised handle. The interior is smooth and non-porous, the plastic is chemically neutral and BPA free, and it is rated for heat, cold, UV and impact. Straight sides let empties nest without jamming, and the same profile means the bucket holds a consistent measure from top to bottom if you end up using it for feed instead.
