Storage is the quiet advantage of a straight-sided bucket. Tapered pails wedge together and you end up hammering one out of another; these nest without locking, so a stack of ten comes apart one at a time and lives in the corner of a feed room in about the footprint of two. Each one holds 5 quarts, roughly 4.7 litres, measuring around 25 cm across and 17 cm deep. The handle is heavy gauge galvanised wire rather than plated steel, the interior is smooth and non-porous with nothing to trap feed, and the plastic is BPA free and holds up to heat, cold, UV and impact. Red is a colour worth reserving deliberately. In a lot of barns it marks the clean side of the operation, the bucket that only ever sees water and feed and never goes near a disinfectant or a manure job. Whatever rule you set, colour is what makes it stick without a label that peels off in the wash. The straight walls also make it a more honest measure. A given depth of feed means the same amount every time, which a tapered bucket cannot promise.
