Details
There is always one bucket that gets used for everything and never gets thought about. It measures out grain, carries water to a pen, holds a hoof soak, catches drips, hauls fencing staples down a line and comes back full of something else. Black is the natural choice for that bucket, because it is the one that does not belong to any colour system. It holds 5 quarts, about 4.7 litres, in a body roughly 25 cm across and 17 cm deep (10 by 6.5 inches). The sides are straight rather than tapered, so the measure stays consistent as you fill it and the bucket does not wedge itself into the one below when you stack them. The handle is heavy gauge galvanised wire, not plated steel that rusts through at the pivot. The plastic is smooth and non-porous, chemically neutral and free of BPA, and it stands up to heat, cold, UV and impact. Nothing soaks in, so it can go from feed to water and back with a rinse in between. Empties nest, so a dozen of them live in the corner of a feed room in about the space of two. That is the real reason people end up owning more of these than they meant to.
