Tuff Stuff rubber round tub 8 gallon with handle
An eight-gallon rubber round tub with a handle, sized so thirty litres of water can be moved without a second trip.
Details
Watering by hand is a matter of how many trips you are prepared to make. Two five-litre pails means walking back and forth all morning; something that carries thirty litres means one trip and a rest. Eight gallons, about 30 litres, is roughly the upper limit of what most people can carry any distance and still put down gently. The handle is what makes that possible. Without one, a tub this size has to be hugged, and you get wet and you spill. With it, the load hangs where your arm naturally does. The body is heavy rubber, which does two things a rigid tub cannot. It absorbs a knock against a gate post or a truck tailgate without cracking, and when the contents freeze it lets go of the ice instead of splitting around it. That second property is the reason rubber tubs stay in service through winters that finish off plastic. For pens without a hydrant, this is the workhorse: fill at the tap, carry it out, tip it into the trough or leave it as the trough. Set it on level ground and it stays put; on a slope it will find its way downhill like anything else.
