Six gallons is the size for feeding a group rather than an individual. Several sheep at a mineral, a couple of calves on grain, a handful of feeder pigs. It doubles as a soaking tub, a wash tub and somewhere to thaw something out, which is why most places end up owning more than one of them. Capacity is 22.7 L (6 gallons), in flexible rubber. The weight of the material is doing real work at this size. A light plastic tub gets nosed across a pen and tipped in about a minute, while a rubber one of the same volume stays where you set it. The other thing rubber does well at this size is survive freezing. Fill it, forget it, and when the block eventually comes loose it comes out whole rather than taking half the tub with it. Store it out of long sun exposure where you can. Rubber lasts a very long time in the cold and rather less well through years of direct summer UV.
