Rubber is what you use where plastic keeps breaking. Deep cold, a horse that leans on things, a bucket that gets stood on. Those are the conditions that split a rigid pail, and a rubber bucket simply deforms and comes back. It is heavier to carry, and that is the trade you are making. This is the 11.4 L (12 quart) flat-back. The flat side is the whole idea: it sits square against a wall, a panel or a stall front instead of drifting away from it, which means less spilled water and no gap behind for a hoof to find. Rubber does not care about ice the way plastic does. A frozen block comes out with the bucket turned over and flexed, without any of the chipping that ruins hard pails by their second winter. Give it a scrub when the inside starts to feel slick, since rubber holds a film more readily than smooth plastic does. Past that, it will outlive most of the pails standing around it.
