Tuff Stuff round tire feeder 16 qts (Blue)
A 15 L (16 qt) feed pan shaped to drop inside an old tire, so the tire's weight keeps stock from flipping it over.
Details
A loose feed pan in a pen has a life expectancy measured in days. Something will stand in it, flip it, or carry it to the far fence. The old fix was to drop a pan into a used tire and let the rubber do the work, and this pan is moulded to do exactly that. It holds 15 L (16 US quarts, or 4 gallons) and is sized to sit inside most 16 to 20 inch passenger car tires, the sort you can usually get free from a shop that would otherwise pay to dispose of them. The material is a low-density polyethylene, so it flexes under a hoof rather than cracking, and it will not rust out the way a steel pan does. Blue is a good colour to reserve for a specific ration if you are feeding more than one group. From a distance a blue pan and a red pan tell you which pen you are looking at without walking over. It also works freestanding on a barn floor if you do not need the weight. Tip it out and rinse it after wet feed, and do not use it to hold a full mineral block, since the pan is not built to carry that kind of concentrated weight.
