Tipped feed pans are a daily annoyance, and in a pen of cattle a nightly one. Dropping a pan into an old tire is the oldest fix there is: the tire weighs enough to stay put, has no edge to cut on, and costs nothing because there is already one behind the shop. This is the pan for it. It holds 16 quarts, about 15 L, moulded from low-density polyethylene so it gives when an animal stands on the rim. It is sized to sit inside tires roughly 16 to 20 inches (41 to 51 cm) in diameter, which covers most car and light truck rubber. Set the tire on level ground and check the fit dry before you fill it. The pan lifts out for cleaning, which is the real advantage over the old habit of feeding straight out of the tire, and it means the whole thing comes apart and gets hosed down at the end of a season.
