Feeding over a fence is how most people avoid walking into a pen with a full bucket, and it is easier on everyone. A round over-the-fence feeder hangs on the top rail, gets filled from the outside, and lifts off when the feed is gone. No gate to open, nothing crowding you at the entrance. It holds 10 quarts, about 9.5 L, which is a full ration for a horse or a shared feed for several smaller animals. The hanger is moulded as part of the body in recycled low-density polyethylene, so there is nothing bolted on to work loose and no metal to rust against a wet rail. Black is the standard for a general-purpose feeder and it shows staining least. Take it off the fence once feeding is done rather than leaving it hanging. A feeder left out fills with rain and snow, and an empty one on a rail is simply something for a bored animal to work at until it comes down.
