Small buckets get used for everything and lost constantly. This one is 8 quarts, near enough 7.6 litres or 2 gallons, in a body about 28 cm across and 20 cm deep (11 by 8 inches). That is the size that suits a single ration, a bucket of water carried out to a pen, or a load of tools going down a fence line. It is moulded from recycled low-density polyethylene, which is the reason it survives being dropped on a frozen yard when a rigid plastic pail would break at the rim. The sides are straight, so it holds a consistent measure through its depth and it nests with others of the same size when empty. Orange is the practical argument for this one. A black or dark bucket set down beside a bale or in a corner disappears; this one does not. If you run a colour system across feeds or pens, it is also a colour few people use for anything else, which makes it easy to assign. Rinse and turn it over rather than leaving it upright outdoors. A bucket that fills with rain and freezes solid is a bucket you have to thaw before you can use it, and that is how rims get cracked.
