Feeder length is really about pecking order. With a short trough the birds at the bottom of it wait, and over a few weeks that shows up as an uneven flock. Running a longer feeder, or more of them, gives the quiet ones somewhere to stand. This is the long version, about 50 cm by 10 cm by 7 cm (19.7 by 3.9 by 2.8 in), with two rows of oval openings down a lid that clips at each end and anti-roost pegs along the ridge. It holds a useful amount of feed for its size because the trough runs the full length rather than tapering. Lime green is the easiest of the colours to find in a dim coop, and that turns out to matter at feeding time in winter when you are working before daylight and would rather not be feeling around in the bedding. Set it along a wall so birds can only work one side and it stays put. Lift the lid to fill, and take the whole thing out for a proper wash every few weeks rather than trying to clean it in place.
