Tuff Stuff poultry flat top ball drinker - 3.1gal
The largest flat top ball drinker in the range at 11.7 litres, sized so a decent flock does not empty it before evening.
Details
Small founts are fine until the weather turns. A drinker that lasts all day in May runs dry by two in the afternoon in July, and the flock has been standing over an empty trough for hours before anyone notices. Going up a size costs nothing in floor space and buys you a margin. This is the 3.1 gallon unit, about 11.7 litres, at the top of a range that starts down around half a quart for chicks. Moulded plastic throughout, with a flat top rather than a domed one, and a wide base that gives it a low centre of gravity when it is full. Set it up on a brick, a block or a low platform rather than flat on the litter. Birds scratch, and anything at floor level ends up with shavings and worse in it within a day. Raising it to roughly back height for the flock keeps the water noticeably cleaner and cuts down how often you are dragging it out to rinse. Dump and rinse it daily in warm weather, and take a brush to the trough properly once a week. The film that builds up in a poultry drinker is invisible until you run a cloth around it.
