Round scoops leave feed in the corners. Not much at a time, but a bin that never gets emptied properly is a bin with old feed sitting in the bottom of it, and that is where the trouble usually starts. A square front sits flush into the corner of a square bin and takes the lot. This is the open square pattern, meaning the leading edge is straight and unwalled, so it loads by pushing rather than lifting. That makes it quicker through a deep bin and much better at flattening out the last of a bag. Pellets, equine feed, crumble and dog food all move through it without sticking. Red shows up against feed and against a dark bin, so it is less likely to get buried under a delivery and then tipped into a mixer with the next load. If you run more than one bin, giving each its own scoop colour costs nothing and saves the occasional bad morning. Wash it if it goes into anything molassed. Otherwise leave it dry. The only thing that reliably kills a plastic scoop is using it as a pry bar.
