Bases outlast jugs. The plastic reservoir is the part that gets knocked off a bench, stepped on in a brooder or cracked by a hard freeze, and once it goes the base underneath it is useless even though there is nothing wrong with it. Keeping a spare jug on the shelf is cheaper than replacing whole units. This is the jug on its own. It threads onto both the universal drinker base and the dual feeder base, which is the useful part: one spare part covers two different pieces of equipment rather than needing a specific replacement for each. Bases are sold separately. Give it a bottle brush now and then rather than a rinse. Feed dust and water leave a film in the neck and shoulder where a cloth will not reach, and that is where a jug starts to smell. Let it dry fully before it goes back on the base, particularly if it has been sitting with medicated or supplemented water in it.
