Tubs walk. Not maliciously, usually. Someone borrows one for grain, someone else leaves one at the far end of the quarter, and by August you own four and can find one. Pink solves that particular problem, because a pink tub in a row of black tubs is accounted for from thirty metres away. Underneath the colour it is the standard tub: 66 L (70 quarts), 53 cm across and 41 cm deep (21 by 16 inches), moulded in 100 percent recycled low-density polyethylene. The plastic is deliberately soft, so it flexes instead of splitting when it is cold out and you are being less careful than you should be. The other use for a distinct colour is keeping a tub honest. If the pink one is the feed tub and never sees a fork, you can wash it once and then trust it, which is not something you can say about a tub that does everything. The moulded rim grips take a two-person lift when it is full, and the shape drags well over concrete or packed dirt when it is not worth lifting at all.
