Reaching down into a drum that is half gone is where most people get into trouble. The cup goes in, the knuckles go in after it, and whatever comes back out ends up on a sleeve. A scoop with the hook moulded into the handle stays where you put it, on the rim, so the sticky end never touches anything but product. The bowl runs about 25 cm wide and 18 cm front to back, 13 cm deep (10 by 7 by 5 inches), moulded in one piece from 100% recycled low-density polyethylene. There are no seams to split and nothing to rust, which matters when it lives in molasses or sits in a pail of wash solution all winter. Red is worth reserving. Pick one product for it and never let this scoop touch anything else. Most barns end up with a red one for the oil or the wash and a different colour for feed, and the rule only holds if the colours are kept honest. It rinses out under a tap in a few seconds and goes straight back on the rim to drain.
