Pink is the one that gets picked for the pony, the kid's horse, and the mare who already has a pink halter. There's no functional difference, but on a shelf of shared barn gear, colour is ownership. The idea is straightforward. The ball holds a portion of feed — pellets, cubes, whatever your horse is already getting — and drops a bit at a time as the horse pushes it around. Ten inches is big enough that a horse has to work it with their nose rather than pick it up and shake it. It matters most in winter. A horse standing in a stall through a week of storms, or on box rest with an injury, gets frustrated, and frustration comes out as stall vices. Giving them something to solve takes the edge off. Feed it from the ration, not on top of it. Watch the first couple of sessions — some horses get territorial about it, and it shouldn't go into a shared pen until you know how they'll behave. Rinse it out occasionally; feed dust and moisture cake up inside.
