Boredom is a real management problem, not a soft one. A horse on stall rest, or one shut in for a week of thirty below, has nothing to do with the hours, and that is where cribbing, weaving and wall-kicking start. A treat ball gives them a job: nose it around, get a pellet, do it again. It's a hollow ball about ten inches across that you load with cubes or pellets. The horse rolls it and feed drops out a few pieces at a time, which stretches a small ration over a long stretch and slows down a horse that bolts its feed. Blue is the plain, unfussy colour, and the one most people pick for a gelding's stall or a barn that doesn't want a rainbow in every corner. A few practical notes: introduce it supervised the first time, use it on footing where it will actually roll, and pull it if a horse gets aggressive over it. Load it from the normal ration rather than adding extra treats — otherwise you're just adding calories to a horse that isn't working.
