Weight is the argument. A steel scoop is heavy before you put anything in it, and after an hour of moving feed your shoulders know it. A plastic blade of the same size carries the same volume for a fraction of the dead weight, which is why the plastic shovel is the one that gets grabbed for the long jobs and the steel one stays on the wall. Blue makes an easy shop-and-feed-room marker if you already colour code. Some people keep the blue one for clean feed and a different colour for everything else, which is a good habit if you handle anything you don't want cross-contaminating. It moves grain, pellets, chop, mineral, shavings and snow without rusting or sparking, and it won't score the inside of a poly bin or tank. Treat it as a scoop, not a spade — prying at frozen ground or packed manure is how plastic blades get broken. In cold weather it also doesn't pull the heat out of your gloves the way steel does.
