Tuff Stuff foldable legs drinking ball 1 Gal
A one-gallon poultry drinker on folding legs that lifts the water up off the bedding and stores flat when the brooder comes down.
Details
Chicks kick shavings into everything. A drinker sitting flat on the floor is full of bedding by mid-morning and wet underneath by evening, and damp litter is where ammonia and coccidiosis problems start. The legs on this one lift the drinking level clear of the bedding so the birds drink instead of wading. The legs fold in when you're done with it, so it stores flat on a shelf instead of taking up a corner of the feed room, and it packs easily if you haul birds to a show or move a brooder between buildings. A gallon is a sensible size for a small backyard flock or a pen of chicks — enough that you're not filling it three times a day, small enough that you'll actually dump and rinse it daily, which is what keeps a drinker clean. Through an Alberta winter, a plastic drinker in an unheated coop freezes solid overnight. Most people run two and swap them, or set up a heated base — check the base maker's instructions before standing plastic on one.
