Details
Five gallons is the size that saves trips. One fill instead of three, whether that is water hung in a stall for an animal that drinks hard or feed carried out to a bunk. The flat side is what makes it a hanging bucket rather than just a pail. It sits against a wall or a corral panel and stays there, which matters more the heavier the bucket gets. Twenty quarts of water is a good deal of weight to have swinging on a single hanger, and a flat back takes the movement out of it. Yellow is a strong choice for anything used in low light, and around here that covers most of the working day for four or five months of the year. It shows up in a dark barn, against snow and against dead grass, so a pail set down out in the pen is still findable. Turn it over when it is empty and it will not be a block of ice the next time you need it.
