Simple, and it works. Two gallons of capacity, a flat side so it hangs tight instead of swinging, and enough width across the top that a horse can drink comfortably and you can get a brush into the bottom. The reason people buy flat backs instead of round pails for stalls comes down to what an animal can do to them. A round bucket rolls on its hanger, gets rubbed off the wall, and leaves a gap behind it that a halter clip or a shoe can find. A flat back does not. Green is a good all-round barn colour. It does not glare, it hides the water stains and mineral marks that build up over a season, and it is dark enough that it will not look filthy the way white plastic does after a month. If the bucket lives outdoors, hang it where you can reach it without going through a gate, because come February you will be dealing with it every single day.
