Nine quarts is the size that gets grabbed when the seven-quart is not quite enough. A big grain ration, a soaked feed, a scoop of mineral for a group, or just something to carry water and brushes in. It is a useful pan to own a few of. The construction is simple and that is why they last. One moulded piece with no fasteners and no seam, walls that flex rather than crack when they get stood on, and a shape that stacks down flat. When feed freezes into the bottom overnight, which it will here, the ice comes out by working the sides rather than by taking a hammer to it. Red is the traditional colour and it is traditional for a reason. Against snow, dirt or straw the pan is still obvious, and it is easy to tell apart from the black pans in the same stack when you are keeping two feeds separate.
