Details
If you buy one pan, buy this size. Seven quarts holds a normal grain feed without the animal working at it and without feed piling up around the sides where it gets nosed out onto the ground. The shape does the work. Low and wide means an animal eats with its head in a natural position and the feed stays where it can reach it. It also means the pan is stable on uneven ground, which a bucket shape never is once there is a hungry horse involved. Red is a good outdoor colour in this part of the world. It reads against snow and against a brown fall pasture, and it does not sink into the ground the way black and dark green do. One practical detail worth knowing: pans left flat in a pen collect rain in the fall and freeze into a solid disc of ice. Turn them upside down when they come out and you will not be prying them off the ground in the morning.
