Small pan, one job. Five quarts is the right amount of room for a supplement or a light grain feed. Put that same feed in a twelve-quart tub and the animal pushes it around the bottom for ten minutes and leaves half of it behind. The pan is a single moulding with no hardware and nothing sharp, so there is nothing to work loose and nothing to catch a nose on when an animal gets pushy at feeding time. It flexes enough to turn out a frozen bottom and to survive being stood on, which small pans always are. Red is the one to reach for if the pan gets carried out to the pen rather than living in a stall. It stays visible against snow, mud and dead grass, so a pan nosed into the corner of a paddock is still findable at chore time. Bring them in, turn them over and they are ready to go the next morning.
