There is a size of pan for every job and this is the one for small feeds. Five quarts suits a supplement, a handful of grain, a foal starting on feed, or the goats and sheep that do not need a horse-sized pan. Handling is what makes the small ones pleasant to use. You can carry two in one hand, they wash in a laundry sink, and they stack down to almost nothing when they are not in use. Because the pan flexes rather than sitting rigid, a frozen bottom pops out with a twist instead of a chisel, which is the difference between one minute and ten on a cold morning. Green works well in a barn. It is dark enough that feed marks do not show and light enough that you can see what is left in the bottom before you dump it. Set them out of the weather when they are empty and they will not be full of snow the next time you want one.
