Five quarts is not much, and that is deliberate. When you are feeding a cup or two of supplement or a small measured grain ration, a big pan spreads it thin and half of it gets nosed onto the ground. A pan sized to the feed keeps it in one place where the animal can clean it up. It is a plain one-piece pan, which is what you want in something that is going to get stepped on. Nothing to split at a seam, nothing sharp if it does eventually give out, and enough flex to knock out an overnight freeze without hammering on it. The reason to buy these in a few colours is simple bookkeeping. If two animals in a barn are on different feeds, or one is on medication, giving each a colour of pan means a helper who is not thinking hard about it still gets it right. Blue is the easiest of the set to tell apart from the standard black at a glance.
