Details
Five quarts is the small end of the range and it earns its place. It is the pan for a supplement, a ration balancer, a foal, a goat or a dog, and for anything you want fed in a measured amount rather than dumped into a big tub. Small pans get moved around, tipped over and stepped on more than big ones, so a one-piece moulding with some flex in it lasts a lot longer than a rigid dish. There are no seams to split and no fasteners to work loose, and a frozen crust comes out by flexing the pan rather than chipping at it. Black is the practical choice for a pan that lives inside a barn or a stall. It does not show feed staining, molasses or the marks a light-coloured pan picks up inside a week, and it stacks in with the rest of them. Rinse it out when you do the water buckets and it will stay decent for years.
