Twelve quarts covers most of what you would want a ground pan for: a full grain ration, soaked cubes, a bran mash, or a shared feed for a couple of head in the same pen. Lime is the reason to pick this one. A feed pan that lives outdoors gets shoved around by animals, buried by snow and lost under bedding, and a bright pan is a pan you can still find in December. Against a brown winter pasture or a foot of fresh snow, lime reads from the seat of a tractor. Black and dark green do not. The pan itself is a single moulding with no rivets and nothing to catch a hoof or a halter. Feed that freezes in overnight comes out by flexing the sides and turning it over, which is easier on the pan than working at it with anything metal. Store them upside down so they do not fill with snow and you will not be chipping ice out of an empty pan before you can feed.
