This is the drinker base on its own, sized for a 1-quart jug. Fill the jug, thread the base on, tip the whole thing over, and water flows into the shallow outer ring and holds its level until the birds drink it down. The base measures roughly 5.9 inches square and about 1.3 inches tall, so it sits flat and low in a brooder or a small pen. The enclosed design is the point. A shallow ring of water with a narrow opening means chicks can drink but can't stand in it, tip it over, or drown in it, and far less bedding gets scratched into the water than with an open dish. In a brooder that is the difference between topping water up twice a day and changing it six times. It's the base only, so the jug is a separate item and a cracked jug doesn't cost you the whole waterer. Worth saying plainly: a quart of water in an unheated coop in an Alberta January is an ice puck by morning, so this is a brooder and warm-weather waterer, not a deep-winter one. Orange.
