This is the 3/4 inch bulkhead adapter - the fitting you install through the wall of a tank, tub or barrel to give it a drain. It goes through a drilled hole and seals against the wall, and it comes with a plug so the outlet stays closed until you want it open. The reason to fit one is dumping. A stock tank or a big mixing tub full of water is not something you tip over by hand, and bailing one out to scrub it is a job nobody wants to do twice. With a bulkhead and plug you pull the plug, walk away, and come back to an empty tank ready to clean. Three-quarter inch is a common thread size, so hose and pipe fittings to route the water somewhere useful are easy to come by. Worth doing in the fall rather than in February. Installing one means drilling the tank, and drilling cold plastic in an unheated shed is harder on both the tank and on you.
