Every calving kit ends up with a set of these in it, usually more than one, because they get lost, chewed, or left in a pen and not found until summer. Having a clean spare set in the bucket is the whole idea. These are flat woven nylon straps with loops worked into them, used to take hold of the calf's legs when a pull is needed. Nylon webbing lies flatter against the leg than a bare link, and unlike a chain it can be scrubbed, soaked and hung to dry. They are made in a range of lengths, so check the length listed on this item against how you like to work and what your handle or puller expects. Wash them in hot water with disinfectant after every use and hang them to dry rather than leaving them balled up wet, which is how they end up stiff and stained. Retire any strap with cut edges, fraying or heat glazing at the loops. Calving assistance itself is a place to have your veterinarian's advice on when to pull and when to stop.
