Springer Magrath 1 gallon gravity style fluid feeder w/ stainless probe
A one gallon gravity-fed esophageal calf feeder with a stainless steel probe that stands up to repeated cleaning and disinfecting.
Details
On an operation running a lot of calves through in a short spring, the feeder gets used and cleaned over and over. A stainless probe is the version people reach for when that is the pattern. Capacity is one gallon, or four quarts, which covers a full feed for most calves in a single fill. The probe is stainless steel rather than plastic, and it is sized and shaped so it will not pass into the trachea. The bag is heavy duty plastic built to resist punctures and tears and to stay flexible down to minus 18 Celsius, and it collapses as it drains without needing a vent. Gravity style means there is no crimp clamp on the line. Height of the bag governs the flow, and the maker's guidance is that the rate stays slow enough for the calf to form saliva freely, which is part of proper digestion. The whole thing pulls apart for cleaning. Wash the bag, tube and probe after each use and let them dry fully before they go back on the hook. Anyone new to tube feeding should be walked through it in person by a veterinarian or an experienced hand first.
