The 7 kg pail of the same thiamine crumble. This is the size for a barn feeding several horses, or one horse staying on it long term where the small pail runs out every few weeks and the per-kilogram cost starts to matter. Buy the bulk size after you have decided it belongs in your program, not before. Thiamine is inexpensive either way, and 7 kg of a supplement you tried for a month and abandoned is 7 kg sitting on a shelf. Feed daily at the label rate, mixed into feed. The honest picture on thiamine is the same at any volume: horses produce B vitamins in the hindgut, so a healthy horse on decent forage is unlikely to be short. It genuinely makes sense where hindgut fermentation has been disrupted — a horse coming off antibiotics, a horse that has been off feed, one on a high-grain ration — or in animals with access to bracken fern and similar plants. As a calming supplement, which is how much of it gets sold, the research is not convincing even though plenty of horsemen swear by it. It is water soluble and surplus is excreted, so trying it is low risk; expecting a sedative is not realistic. With a pail this size, storage discipline matters. Keep the lid sealed, store it off a concrete floor and out of any damp, and keep the scoop in the pail rather than loose in the feed room. Crumbles that take up moisture cake into a solid brick that nobody bothers to break up.
