The blue lotion in a squeeze bottle is one of those products that has been on barn shelves for decades and stays there because it does a simple job cheaply. It is a liniment: you rub or brush it onto legs, backs and hindquarters after work, it warms and stimulates circulation at the surface, and the horse gets rubbed down properly in the process — which is arguably half the benefit. Use it on clean, dry skin. Keep it well away from eyes, off open cuts and scrapes, and off any raw or blistered area, because it stings badly on broken skin. Wash your hands after. Do not wrap over it unless the label explicitly permits wrapping — liniments under a bandage concentrate and can scald or blister a leg, which is one of the most common self-inflicted injuries in a barn. Some horses have thin or sensitive skin and will react to any liniment. Try a small patch on a new horse before you do both hind legs and find out the hard way. Two honest limits. A liniment is a rub, not a treatment — it does not resolve an injury, and a leg that is hot, filled or lame needs a veterinarian rather than another application. And liniments are frequently restricted under competition medication rules, so check your association's list if you show. The 475 mL bottle lasts a long time in normal use. Keep the cap on and store it out of freezing and out of the sun.
