A brush-on hoof dressing in a 946 mL jug. The job of a dressing like this is to slow moisture loss from the hoof wall in dry conditions — the summer stretch when a dry corral turns hooves brittle and they start chipping and losing nails between farrier visits. You paint it on the wall and the coronet band, usually a few times a week rather than daily. Apply it to a clean, dry hoof. Mud and manure packed on the wall stop it doing anything, so a wire brush first is worth more than a second coat. Do not pack it into the frog or sole crevices and expect it to help thrush — a dressing seals, and sealing a wet, infected frog makes it worse. Thrush needs cleaning out and a product intended for it. The uncomfortable truth about hoof dressings generally is that they are cosmetic and protective at the surface. Hoof quality is grown from the inside, from nutrition, exercise, genetics and consistent farrier work, and a dressing does not change any of those. A horse with genuinely poor feet is better served by a biotin and mineral supplement, a shorter shoeing cycle and getting off constantly wet or constantly dry footing. The dressing is a maintenance tool alongside that. Also be careful about swinging between soaked and bone dry. Cycling wet to dry does more damage to a hoof than either extreme on its own. Keep the lid closed so it does not thicken, store above freezing, and keep the brush clean.
