Small coops run out of floor before they run out of birds. This is the compact heated pad in the range at 23 by 30 cm (9 by 12 in), which fits a bantam house, a rabbit hutch or the corner of a tractor without swallowing the space the animals need for everything else. Draw is 25 watts. The shell is rigid ABS plastic with rounded edges, and the first 46 cm (18 in) of the 1.7 m (5.5 ft) cord is steel capped where pecking and chewing are most likely. Dual thermostatic control brings the surface toward animal body temperature when something is lying on it and lets it drift with ambient air when nothing is. It is MET certified to UL 499 standards and covered by a one-year limited warranty. Because it warms by contact rather than radiating heat, it works with the ventilation in a small enclosure instead of against it. You can keep the airflow you need for moisture control and still give the birds a warm place to sit. Lay it flat, away from the drinker, on bedding rather than bare wire. Clean it with a damp towel or sponge and mild dish detergent. It must not go through a washing machine and should not be hosed. There is no on-off switch, so unplug it when the season ends.
