What is the best heated perch for chickens?
The K&H Thermo-Chicken Perch has an oval bar shaped for a hen's foot and dual thermostats. Get the 66 cm for a small flock or the 91 cm for a longer row of birds.
What is a safer way to keep chickens warm than a heat lamp?
The short answer
A heated pad or heated perch puts warmth where the birds are, with no bulb to fall and no glass to break. The K&H Thermo-Chicken Heated Pad draws 40 watts on the coop floor, and the Thermo-Chicken Perch warms the bar they roost on in 66 cm or 91 cm lengths. Pipestone Farm Supply carries all of them.

Is a heated pad good for a chicken coop?
It gives birds a warm place to stand. The K&H Thermo-Chicken Heated Pad measures 47 by 32 cm and warms toward the birds' body temperature, and K&H rates it for birds 30 days and older. For a small coop, the 23 by 30 cm Thermo-Peep fits better.
How do I heat a small chicken coop?
Use low-wattage heat in the spot the birds use. A 25-watt K&H Thermo-Peep pad fits a small coop or chicken tractor, and a 66 cm heated perch adds a warm roost on 40 watts.
Where should I put a heated pad in a coop?
Lay it flat on the floor where birds already gather, not under the roost where droppings land. Keep it away from the drinker, since it is water resistant, not waterproof.
