When a prod goes dead the handle is usually fine and the motor is the part that has given up. This is the replacement, and it makes a rebuild a real option rather than an expensive shrug. Before committing to a motor, work through the cheap possibilities first. Flat or corroded batteries, dirty contacts, a shaft that has cracked and let moisture into the wire, and a loose shaft nut all present the same way, which is a prod that seems weak or does nothing at all. Going through those in order costs an hour and saves a good deal, and it is a job for a quiet afternoon rather than the middle of a run. If the motor really is finished, fitting the new one is straightforward shop work. Keep grit and moisture out of the handle while it is open, clean the contacts while you have access, and check the safety strap and clip at the same time. A rebuilt prod that lives inside instead of in a truck box will give you another long stretch.
