The Jolt 100 is the basic handle in the line. It is the one to buy if a prod is something you own rather than something you use, which describes plenty of acreage owners and smaller cow-calf outfits who want one on hand a few times a year and do not need it built for a feedlot. It pairs with Jolt flexible prod shafts, sold separately, so you pick the length that suits the alley and tub you have. Buying the handle and a shaft together is the normal way to do it. Whatever handle you own, the prod belongs at the end of the sequence rather than the start. Gates, a paddle, a flag, patience and a yard that flows properly do most of the work, and a crew reaching for the prod constantly usually has a facility problem rather than a cattle problem. Store it inside, pull the batteries if it is going to sit for months, and keep the contacts clean. Cold and damp are what finish these off.
