Details
The Handy Prod is the short one. No shaft, no length to swing, just a compact unit that works in one hand, with insert-moulded brass prongs and an on/off switch. It holds no residual charge after use. Its place is close-quarters work, where a long shaft is more hindrance than help. Loading chutes, hog work, a tight alley, or anywhere you are already leaning through a rail with the other hand busy. It runs on AA batteries and weighs well under a pound, which is why it tends to live in the truck or a coat pocket instead of hanging on a wall. Same rule as any prod. It comes last in the sequence, behind gates, a paddle, quiet handling and a facility that flows the way it should. Pull the AAs if it is going to sit for a season, because leaking cells ruin more of these than hard use ever does. Keep the prongs clean, keep the switch free of grit, and store it somewhere heated rather than in a truck box through a prairie winter.
