Batteries fail long before handles do. This is the rechargeable pack for the Jolt prods, and swapping it is a great deal cheaper than replacing a handle that is otherwise perfectly sound. If the prod runs weak, will not hold overnight, or goes flat halfway through a run, the pack is the first thing to check. Plenty of outfits keep a second pack instead of buying a second prod. One sits on the charger while the other one works, which is what lets a crew finish four hundred head in a day rather than stopping at three hundred. Cold is hard on any rechargeable. Keep the pack in a heated space between uses through the winter and charge it the night before rather than the morning of. Keep the contacts clean and dry. Do not leave a pack sitting flat for months, and do not leave one in a truck box through a cold snap if there is any way around it. Replaced on a sensible cycle, a handle will outlive several packs.
