A twisted splice in barbed wire is a compromise. It slips under tension, it leaves ends that catch hide, and it is always the spot that lets go first when a cow leans on the fence. A crimp sleeve gives you a mechanical joint instead. Slide it over both wire ends, close it down with a crimping tool, and the splice holds close to the rated strength of the wire itself. These are sized for 12 1/2 gauge barbed wire, fifty units to the pack. That covers a season of repairs on most places, and it is enough that you can keep a handful in the truck and still have some on the shelf. You need a proper crimping tool to install them. Pliers or a hammer will deform the sleeve without setting it, which leaves you a joint that looks finished and is not. If you are buying crimps for the first time, buy the tool at the same time. Worth doing properly once. A crimped splice in a boundary fence is something you walk past for the next ten years without thinking about it.
