Hayes HC4 crimp, 8 - 9 ga. (50 units)
The heaviest crimp sleeve in the range, sized for 3.55 to 4 mm wire where a knot is neither practical nor strong enough.
Details
Some jobs call for wire you cannot reasonably tie. At 8 and 9 gauge the wire barely bends by hand, and any knot you manage is a lump that will not seat properly against a strainer post. HC4 is the sleeve for that range: 3.55 to 4 mm wire, 9 through 8 gauge, 50 to the pot. It works the same as the lighter sizes. The ends go in, a crimping tool squeezes the sleeve down in overlapping bites, and the join ends up stronger than the wire beside it. The rule is the same as always and matters more on heavy wire because the loads are higher. Begin at one end, overlap every crimp, leave no untouched section of sleeve. Take the extra few seconds, because on a boundary fence or a strainer assembly this is the join you never want to think about again. Match the sleeve to the wire rather than forcing an oversized wire into a smaller size. A sleeve that is too small will not close properly, and one that is too large will not grip.
